I am Joni Kling,  a multi-disciplinary artist from Rotterdam with a foundation in illustration. My work includes paintings; murals,  small hand-drawn illustrations; designs for fashion; live-paint performances and tattoo-art. 

My inspiration comes from (ancient) cultures, modern abstract art, nature and human beings. By combining the mythological with abstract  line art I’ve created a very defined style that is in constant development. 

I have a ritualistic process: mostly starting with material and colour selection; and without planning my every step. I let my subconscious mind take over and allow my work to emerge from the materials and on the canvas. Autobiographical elements are often present, coming to life through cubistic figures. This allows my work to resonate with other people, because art is not what I see in it, but what I make other see. The work will lead a life on its own, and that's the beauty of art.

In a society where everything has a purpose I like to get lost in a world where there doesn’t have to be. Creating is the purest form of expression without being constrained society. Finding my way in life through painting and creating. Something that will never stop or be complete.
