I was staring at old and unfinished paintings for far to long, so I decided to randomly cut them all up and to make collages with the pieces. 

It's scary at first but also liberating after a while. Feels good to start anew, to destroy and create at the same time and to get rid of paintings I did not feel connected to anymore.

 

This is No. 5 in the 'My Phoenix' series. 

I made No. 5 on an old painted panel I found in the streets. You can still see some of the original stillife elements in there if you look close enough. 

Also, it used to have an old baroque wooden frame around it, but that did not work at all with this new look. So I needed to think of something else as a frame but the badly cut panel did not make it easy. I love how I fixed the " "problem" because now it highlights the history of the material instead of cutting it clean and hiding it.
